Effect of Community Improvement Collaborative on postpartum family planning in Uganda

This fact sheet describes the effort of E2A, with the STRIDES for Family Health project and Makerere University, to introduce a communty-based Improvement Collaborative in Kamwenge and Kyenjojo districts in Uganda. The communtiy Improvement Collaborative formed community-based quality improvement teams to generate demand, increase uptake of postpartum family planning services, inform the future scale-up of postpartum family in Uganda, and address the most pressing challenges to family planning service delivery. The community Improvement Collaborative built on and addressed challenges evident in the findings from a facility-based Improvement Collaborative implemented by STRIDES and E2A from March 2012 to June 2013 in 10 Ugandan districts. The facility-based Improvement Collaborative resulted very low uptake of postpartum family planning services at facilities, largely due to minimal demand within the population served.
