ASSESSMENT OF SCALE-UP | ETHIOPIA: Expanding Voluntary Contraceptive Methods to include LARCs in Youth-Friendly Service Units
To increase the uptake of family planning methods, the USAID-funded Evidence to Action (E2A) Project tested a youth-friendly services (YFS) model in the Amhara and Tigray regions of Ethiopia. This model focused on offering young people ages 15-24 years voluntary access to the full range of contraceptive methods, including LARCs, in a one-stop shop (the YFS unit) approach. The process for testing the model, scaling it up, and documenting the scale-up process followed E2A’s ‘evidence to action cycle’ and structures the presented information. This technical report documents the process of scaling up the proven expanded choice model, highlighting facilitating factors and the barriers and challenges encountered.
