Stembile Mugore

Stembile (Tembi) Mugore, a UK-trained nurse, midwife and public health professional, has extensive experience providing technical assistance to: policy and strategy development and implementation; monitoring and evaluation of primary health care programs; health systems strengthening; integration of health services; and maternal, neonatal and child health, family planning, and HIV and AIDS programs and services. Tembi serves as E2A’s Senior Advisor for Health Sector Performance and Sustainability. Throughout her career, she has championed and provided oversight for numerous policy changes in family planning, reproductive health, and HIV and AIDS service delivery. Tembi has developed service guidelines, training systems, and quality-improvement systems. In her home country of Zimbabwe, Tembi worked collaboratively with pre-service training institutions, regulatory councils, and professional associations to advocate for and build the capacity of pre-service training institutions to incorporate family planning. This initiative became a model for family planning training in pre-service education of nurses and midwives in many African countries. She has worked for IntraHealth International in senior technical advisory capacities for over 20 years in Eastern and Southern African countries and in the United States, including her current role with E2A. While with E2A, Tembi led an assessment of postabortion care-family planning services in four Franco-phone countries; is leading provision of technical assistance to strengthen facility- and community-based family planning service delivery access and quality in Burundi; and is leading an initiative to improve the quality of postabortion care-family planning services in Togo.
