Murtala Mai
Dr. Murtala Mai is E2A’s Director of Field Support. Dr. Mai is a passionate public health physician and health project management specialist with over 17 years of progressive professional work experience in providing technical assistance and directing the design and implementation of large-scale health projects across various sub-sectors, including: delivery of primary health care services; reproductive health/family planning; HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support; disease control and prevention including immunization programs; and health system strengthening. Dr. Mai’s extensive multi-country and multi-sector experience is brought to bear to facilitate and direct the provision of high-quality, context-appropriate, and field-focused technical assistance and program management support to E2A field teams across several countries. Dr. Mai has led the development and implementation of several projects on behalf of Pathfinder International Nigeria that include the multi-country Community Action for Prevention of Post-Partum Hemorrhage project, funded by MacArthur Foundation; the USAID-supported Community Action and Participation in Social Sector; and the Packard-funded Private Sector Family Planning project in Northern Nigeria, among others. These projects were successful in improving access to, quality, and utilization of basic maternal, newborn and child health, family planning, and education services, while also strengthening community and local government capacity for sustaining results. On behalf of E2A, Dr. Mai has led the development and start-up of the Community-Based Family Planning Program in Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Private Sector PMTCT Plus project in Nigeria, the Fistula Elimination Project in Ethiopia, and introduction of Standard Days Method within the method mix in using the Balanced Counseling Strategy in Tanzania.
